New Health Canada Data on the Marijuana Industry

Health Canada has released new detailed metrics for April 2017 to June 2017 in regards to the medical marijuana landscape in Canada. Most notably, the number of active client registrations with licensed producers in Canada has risen to 201,398 which is far ahead of estimates from previous years. Health Canada has also released details on where these patients are located, showing the vast majority of patients residing in Ontario, currently at 86,196, and Alberta, currently at 74,013, as of the end of June 2017.

The total number of personal growing licenses for medical purposes in Canada is shown to be at 6,374 with the majority of those residing in Ontario and British Columbia.

It is expected that the growth of both of these numbers will slow once recreational marijuana becomes legal next year as some patients will just self medicate in the recreational market.

For more information, see the Health Canada Market Data.

Health Canada will continue to improve on the data they are reporting with the help of licensed producers to give a more accurate landscape of the industry.
